"El ocaso de los hidalgos y la Guerra de la Independencia en Asturias" analyzes the evolution of the customs and traditions of the Nalón valley during the death rattles of the Ancient Regime, by using the people that inhabited the 'Casa de la Buelga' until the mid-19th century. Two successive events that lead to profound changes in the life of the people of Langreo are studied: the Peninsular War and the industrial revolution derived from carbon exploitation. All of these helped to dismantle the old traditional primogenitures.
