After twenty years of controversy about its location, the construction of 'El Musel' started in 1893. During the construction, accidents played a necessary part in a civil work of this magnitude. But the worst accident in the history of 'El Musel' happened on 25th February 1913, an accident that went down in history as the Catastrophe of 'El Musel'. In that fateful day, an explosion of 6tm. of dynamite at the port's quarry caused the death of 22 people.
